Kingsway Ice Hockey,
I hope everyone is well, safe and staying busy. I wanted to give everyone a quick update on the Leagues. Other elemenst to playing are pretty much on par with my last update.
The SJHSHL (Boys Varsity and JV) will not begin game play until Dec. 1st at the earliest. If this stays the way it is, practices will begin on Nov. 4th
The ICSHL (Girls Varsity) will not begin play until Nov. 1st at the earliest. Practices will begin on Oct. 7th if this date reains true.
the DELCO League and Mite Cross-Ice group will not begin play until Nov. 29th at the earliest. If this stays the same practices will begin on 10/28 for the Middle school Group and 10/31 for the Elementary/Cross-ice Group.
Voorhess Middle School League will not start play until Dec. 1st. 10/28 would be the start of practices.
Please note that this is information is as of today and it certainly could change. IMPORTANT-We have a tuition installment due on August. 31st. You do NOT have to pay that installlment unless you choose to do so. It is very likely that a tuition decrease will happen if our games and practices get reduced.
That is it for now, and as always, contact me if you have any questions.
Good Morning Everyone,
I wanted to give you an update on the status of KIHC, League play and Rink Capacity Issues. As of today, we are moving forward with hockey. We currently have 67 registrations for the coming season. We are light in some areas and strong in others as far as team-formation goes. The numbers do look good and we should field at least 6 teams. (Boys Varsity and JV, Girls Varsity, 2 Middle School Teams and 1 Mite Team. We are thin at the elementary level but have plans to either merge with another school with “light numbers” or move kids up or down according to school grade or talent level. Be assured that $$ will be refunded either fully or partially if the season gets shut down at any point, or if a merger takes place. Most importantly please reach out and encourage friends that are on the fence about playing. Have them sign up ASAP. Please let them know that we absolutely will not put any of our children into an unsafe environment. Our practices for the 3 High School teams are scheduled to begin on Sept. 9th. The middle school, elementary school and mite groups will not begin practice until Nov. 1st. We will also be having jersey sizing sessions, in some format, for the High School group next week. (I hope).
The ICSHL league for the girl’s team is slated to start on Oct. 5th. That league is currently discussing league format and play. The SJHSHL for the 2 Boys High School teams will have a meeting very shortly and I will have more information soon. They are still slated to start play on Oct. 1st. The DELCO league and Mite Cross-Ice will not begin play until Dec. 1st. Voorhees Middle School League will have a meeting this coming Monday, so more on that as well.
As of today, rinks in NJ and PA, have a limit of 25 persons. This is challenging for both practices and games, but most assuredly games. I am being told that the leagues will be fairly creative in how play is structured. Right now some leagues at the club level are going with 2-22 minute halves, 10 players and 1 coach on the bench per team, 2 refs and 1 score keeper. The other players will rotate from locker room to bench either at half time or during play. I can foresee the school leagues following suite until the indoor “25” person rule is lifted. Also, Ice Hockey is the ONLY medium risk “indoor” youth sport that is adversely affected by the “25” rule because of the larger roster it carries. Other indoor medium risk sports like Volleyball and Basketball have smaller rosters and can play without issue. Because of this, USAH is currently petitioning many states (PA and NJ included), to raise the “25” rule to “40” JUST for Ice Hockey. We will see how this goes.
Just as a note, our program is “Club Hockey” and is NOT governed or affected by State Youth Sports governing bodies like NJSIAA or PIAA. We are governed by the state mandates and the rules that each league and rink imposes upon us.
I hope you are all well and in good spirits and wish everyone a safe return to both school and hockey. This is such a challenging time for everyone and I want to let you know that we will do everything in our power to keep our children and families safe. If at any time any health issues arise during practice or play, it is in our power to immediately shut things down on our end. YES, we all want to play this great game, but it will NEVER be at the expense of life and family.
Stay Safe and Stay Well.
We are excited to announce to return of Chris Francis to the Kingsway coaching staff! Coach Francis will be the Boys’ Varsity Head Coach for the 2020-2021 season. Joining Coach Francis on the Varsity bench will be Scotty Winters and Brad Weil. Our ALL NEW coaching Staff for the Boys’ JV team led by Bill Talbot as head coach and assisted by Nick Rosato and Rob Maleno.
Coach Francis will be reaching out to the high school players in the near future to prepare for the upcoming season.
Kingsway Ice Hockey Fans and Followers,
We were just informed from the Town and Country golf club in Woodstown, NJ that they are cancelling all of their large golf outings for the remainder of 2020. I checked around and many other country clubs are doing the same. So…Kingsway Ice Hockey is officially cancelling our 2020 Golf Outing Fundraiser. It is a sad commentary on what is happening with this pandemic but it is the right choice. We are hoping that we can continue on with this tradition during the Spring of 2021.
I hope everyone is healthy and safe.
